In Nicaragua, we sometimes use a thick dash to indicate a compound, for
example: CHILD-MAN, which means BOY. We also write horizontally, which
avoids the problem of long words.

If the language uses a compound, I would respectfully suggest that you take
pains to respect the integrity of the language.
