Attached is the same sign written in two different ways. It is the ASL sign for "few". The example to the left shows a quick way to write the single trill without specifying which fingers open first or second. It shows one opening symbol (hollow circle) with an alternating symbol above it (alternating meaning: first one, then the next, then the next). The version to the right shows an exact writing of which fingers open first and second...more detailed writing of sequential finger movements.
