Dear Merlot Reviewers:
Thank you so much for the excellent review. I appreciate all the time
and effort you have taken. Everything reported has merit. Here are
some of my comments in response ;-)

------------------

1. Review points out:
"The site is for Sign Language users, not beginning signers."

Yes. This is true.

SignWriting cannot teach a person to sign. To learn to sign, a person
needs one-on-one signing experiences with Deaf people, or they need
to enroll in a Sign Language class. But SignWriting can help in the
process of learning to sign, by providing a way to write down the new
signs learned in the classroom. SignWriting also provides Sign
Language literature. Reading and writing always assists in learning
any language.

2. Review points out:
"SignWriter Shareware needs to be in Windows, not MS-DOS"

Yes. This is true.

Although we have worked since 1996 on a Windows version, it is not
ready for distribution yet. There are other Windows programs for
SignWriting under development in other countries...so in time there
may be a Windows version.

Could you say something like this somewhere?:

"Although SignWriter Shareware is in MS-DOS at the writing of this
review, Windows programs are under development. Check the
SignWritingSite occasionally for up-to-date announcements."

--------------

3. Reviewer points out:
Overwhelming amount of information.

Yes. This is true.

I feel overwhelmed myself, and I am the designer of the web site!
There are over 800 web pages, so my focus now is to make the
SignWritingSite easier and better to use.

Could you say something like this somewhere?:

"The SignWritingSite offers new postings on a regular basis. The
Lessons Online will be improved, and the Library of Literature will
become more extensive, with improved search capabilities. So check
back regularly."

--------------

Thank you so much, once again, for including the SignWritingSite on
the Merlot Teacher Education Peer Review...We feel very honored to be
included!
