Thanks for your thoughts, Valerie. Yes, I live in the Bronx now,
which is a few miles away from where the World Trade center was.
Fortunately, no one close to me was hurt or killed by the attacks. But I
used to walk through the World Trade Center every day on my way to work,
and the thought of all those people killed still keeps me awake some
nights.

The way that this has touched me the most is that there used to be
a Muslim man selling pastries outside my subway station every morning.
He always gave me a big hello, whether I bought anything or not. A few
hours after the attack I saw him packing up his cart, and I haven't seen
him since. The Hispanic guy who sells batteries there said that the
pastry vendor was afraid to come back.

I'm afraid that many more people, mostly innocent, will die before
this is over. Some of them may be Deaf people, teachers of the Deaf, or
even members of this list.
