I would say that the proper technical term is "chereme" from cheiro
(Greek hand) and +eme, a particle. This is the term Stokoe has used in
his linguistic research to divide sign language into its component parts
of signifier, movement, orientation, point of contact, and facial
expression. Sign Writing pretty much divides itself appropriately into
a "cheremic" language.
