Dear SW List Members:

I hope this email message finds you all as happy and contented as I am. I
am sitting at my computer, looking out of my picture window, east, towards
the California desert. It is around 5:45 in the evening... the sun is
setting behind me, and the full moon is rising in the east, looking over my
computer, smiling at me! And it is a remarkable full moon. Very very bright.

Yesterday I spoke with a young lady from Porto Alegre, Brazil. She is
studying here in California. I know several people from Porto Alegre,
because SignWriting is used there, so it was exciting for me to share with
her. I understand that it is summer in Brazil right now, and people are on
vacation from school. And I found out that Brazil's Valentine's Day is in
May, and that an important carnival event occurs in February. I enjoyed
learning about this wonderful country!

And even though Brazil is half a world away, Brazilians still see the same
full moon...which means we all are actually quite close, no matter where we
are :-)

I guess Brazil is on my mind, since I have four long messages from Brazil
waiting for me to answer, plus I am preparing a web posting for Monday,
that will feature a new computer program using SignWriting, being designed
by Brazilian programmer Daniela Remião de Macedo. It is called "Sign Dic".
I am very impressed with Daniela's design. She sent me pictures of each
screen, so you will be able to see what the program looks like. It is
really a blessing :-)

And February is upon us....this February will be the 25th anniversary for
our nonprofit organization. SignWriting will be 25 years old in September.
Of course this makes me think back and relive those early years....it is
nice to have memories :-)

Meanwhile, I am planning to post new contributions to our Independent
S'Writers Forum on February 8th, which will include poetry by 12-year old
Gabriel, Lourdes' son, and also SignWriting literature and an article about
SignWriting, written by Charles Butler. And there may be another
contribution by a third author as well, so people are starting to write
literature - this is terrific - keep the contributions coming!

I want to thank Caroline Readman for helping me join the SignWriting
Webring ...I am one of those spoiled web designers who uses PageMill, on
the Macintosh. PageMill is software which helps me design web pages without
bothering to learn html code. But Caroline is a programmer skilled in html
code, and with Caroline's help, I learned what I had to do, to link the
SignWritingSite into the SW Webring. It was a great experience for me, and
I learned a lot! Later, when it is ready, Caroline will announce the ring
so you all can visit.

So that is my report for now.....

Have a wonderful weekend everyone!

Valerie ':-)
