Write SignWriting By Hand
Introduction:
Return to Basics |
|
SignWriting
uses similar terminology. Here is "printing"
in "block SignWriting symbols".
We call this SignWriting Printing:
SignWriting Printing is usually written by
computer, using SignPuddle,
but you can also Sign-Print by hand,
very carefully and slowly, making each symbol
as perfect as possible.
When children first learn to write English
letters in school, they start by learning
to print block English letters, making each
letter of the alphabet as perfect as possible.
Later, they learn how to write English handwriting.
The same process is true for SignWriting too.
|
SignWriting Handwriting is faster than
writing SignWriting Printing. It is also sloppier
and possibly harder for others to read ;-)
In the Handwriting, the symbols are shortened,
to make it faster to jot down notes. Sometimes
the symbols connect, and when they do, it
is called Cursive SignWriting.
Usually SignWriting Handwriting is a mixture
of cursive and non-cursive symbols... It is
more relaxed and writers oftentimes develop
their own handwriting skills.
|
And
just like spoken languages,
SignWriting Handwriting is NOT the same
as SignWriting Shorthand:
SignWriting
Shorthand is a stenography
system for professional sign language
stenographers, and is not the same as
SignWriting
Handwriting, which is used
everyday by children and adults.
