June 11, 1999 Dear SW List: As you know I posted tarot cards written in SignWriting a few days ago on this page: Sample of ASL Tarot Cards Written In SW https://www.SignWriting.org/writ013.html I have now added this description to the page, written by Charles Butler: From: Charles Butler Reply-To: SignWriting List Organization: Ecumenicon To: SignWriting List Subject: To go with the Tarot cards The Tarot is an ancient system of divination, used to read the current patterns in your life, like a good doctor reading symptoms and proposing a solution. They are not "predictive" but "prescriptive". Humans think in patterns and having "key words", "pictures", or "themes" helps us to sort out what is going in our life. The Sign Tarot has five suits. Feelings, Thoughts, Dreams, Foundations, and Spirit. The suit pictured below is Thoughts. There are 20 cards, each with a different action, emotion, or person associated with "thought". Use them as key words to tell yourself a story and see what you come up with. This deck is in ASL, and would have to be adjusted for any other Signed Language. We compare them to the Navajo "talking blankets" and so call them the Sign Tarot, a deck of Talking Cards. For more information, and the rest of the deck, contact Charles Butler at ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Valerie :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Valerie Sutton SignWriting https://www.SignWriting.org The DAC, Deaf Action Committee for SW Center For Sutton Movement Writing an educational nonprofit organization Box 517, La Jolla, CA, 92038-0517, USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
