Good Morning SW List Members :-) On Sun, 5 Jul 1998 Valerie Sutton wrote ... >Meanwhile the programmers will be working on the internal >code. I am writing to report our progress on the development of SignWriter 5.0, and to introduce and welcome a new programmer to the development team, Christopher Priebe. Chris is now the second programmer writing the Java code, along with Rich Kadel, both from DTAI Software in San Diego: https://www.dtai.com Chris is a good choice to share the programming tasks, because he is not only a skilled programmer, but is also interested in languages himself. On Monday, I assumed that I would have to train Chris to read a little SignWriting, but when I arrived I found out that Chris had already visited our SignWriting Web Site and taken all of the lessons online and was surprisingly skilled in reading signs. So I am real pleased to have such an eager young programmer onboard. Chris had one complaint (grin)...namely that there were not enough lessons online! He wanted more...which makes me think that I should start posting more lessons. Perhaps you agree? I will write another message soon on font designs. This week I am designing the fonts to go with this new program, and it is a lot of fun, although very picky too. As you know, artists create beautiful looking fonts for the English alphabet. Perhaps later we can create different styles of SignWriting fonts, such as bold, and italic, condensed etc - right now I am just creating the basic font to go with the Java program. So, while you have been discussing what category to place SignWriting in, I have been designing a way to type the symbols- I plan to respond to all of your wonderful messages as soon as this deadline is over - Our goal is to have something up and running by Saturday of this week - let us cross our fingers!! Have a wonderful day - Valerie Sutton :-) https://www.SignWriting.org Sutton at the DAC Deaf Action Committee For SignWriting Box 517, La Jolla, CA, 92038-0517, USA (619)456-0098 voice (619)456-0010 tty (619)456-0020 fax |
