Excerpting from a press release that just came across the LINGUIST list: David Barton and Mary Hamilton, LOCAL LITERACIES Reading and Writing in One Community Local Literacies is a unique study of everyday reading and writing. By concentrating on a selection of people in a particular community in Britain, the authors analyze how they use literacy in their day to day lives. This exploration provides a description of literacy at one point in time, and also reveals the nature and significance of communication to people, households and communities. Routledge: 1998: 320 pp CL: 0 415 17149 0: #D5178: $90.00 PB: 0 415 17150 4: #D5182: $27.99 Thought the topic may be of interest to folks here. Just curious, as I am starting to make presentations at various conferences, trainings etc I notice that when I talk about documenting client use of language I always end up suggesting videotape or SW. Are others making presentations that end up advocating SW use? ---------------------------------------------------------------------- Ben Karlin St Louis Psychiatric Rehabilitation Center H007B, 5300 W Arsenal St, St Louis, MO 63139-1494 314 644-8270 V/TTY 314 644-8115 FAX |
