Dear SignWriting List Members:
I am happy to announce the following new publications:

1. Goldilocks, Reading Level 1
Workbook and Coloring Book

Reading Level 1 teaches the vocabulary used in Reading Level 2. It includes
illustrations to color, plus writing lessons. Students write rows of each
symbol for writing practice, and learn to read and write basic signs.

2. Goldilocks, Reading Level 2
Basic ASL Reader
Short story with ASL-English dictionary in the back.

This is the first true reading experience, which includes basic ASL
sentences. It is a short version of the Goldilocks story, with a dictionary
in the back that explains all the vocabulary used in Reading Level 2. The
dictionary lists the signs by Sutton's Sign-Symbol-Sequence.

This version of Goldilocks was written directly in American Sign Language,
in SignWriting, by Darline Clark Gunsauls. It was first posted on the
SignWriting Web Site in April, 1997. The web version and book version
differ slightly, since the book includes the dictionary and improved
illustrations.

3. Sutton's American Sign Language Picture Dictionary
Basic ASL Signs written in SignWriting. The dictionary lists signs by
Sutton's Sign-Symbol-Sequence.

This children's dictionary includes delightful color illustrations. ASL
signs are written on the left, and English words are written on the right,
with pictures inbetween. You can cover up the words to remember the signs,
or cover up the signs to remember the words.

The ASL Picture Dictionary, First Edition, was posted on the SignWriting
Web Site on September 22, 1997, and the Second Edition was posted on the
web on January 19, 1998. This published book is the Third Edition,
published August 18th, 1998.

Four ASL Stories signed by Darline Clark Gunsauls

Including...

1. Goldilocks and the Three Bears
2. Sleeping Beauty
3. Cinderella
4. Snow White

There is no voice on this video at this time, so the video will only be
useful to those who know ASL, or who are learning SignWriting. The

"Goldilocks, Reading Level 4" (see below) are based on this video. The

5. "Learn To Read ASL"
Goldilocks, Reading Level 3
Intermediate ASL Reader & Workbook

You will never see a reader and workbook like this one! Each frame from the
videotaped story of Goldilocks is captured and placed as a photograph in
the book in the sequence of the story. Next to each photo, is the written
SignWriting for the sign. The SignWriting symbols are color-coded in a
unique way, to assist in quick reading. This is an excellent book for
serious SignWriting students. It establishes a firm foundation for Reading
Level 4. Students also write complete ASL sentences for the first time.
Over 40 pages. All photos are of Darline Clark Gunsauls, who signed the
story on the video.

6. Goldilocks, Reading Level 4
Advanced ASL Reader

Complete story of Goldilocks, based on the videotape: "The SignWriting
Children's Stories Series", signed by Darline Clark Gunsauls. The story was
transcribed into SignWriting by Valerie Sutton, writing each sign from the
video, frame by frame.

This is a true study in reading ASL grammar, including classifiers, role
shifting, and eyegaze. It is a special book, because it was hand-crafted by
Valerie Sutton. All the nuances of ASL were written, showing the visual
accuracy and flexibility of the SignWriting system. It includes over 40
pages of SignWriting text with colorful illustrations, and an ASL-English
dictionary in the back listing the vocabulary used in Reading Level 4.

When a student can read this book directly in ASL with no hesitation, they
are truly fluent "SignReaders".
