I have been meaning to write to the list about the SignWriting Literacy Project. Of course it is an ongoing project. But this fall is pivotal, since it will be the first time the schools will try our new SignWriting materials. The schools will receive these materials to start with: 1. Goldilocks, Reading Level 1 Workbook and Coloring Book 2. Goldilocks, Reading Level 2 Basic ASL Reader Short story with ASL-English dictionary in the back. 3. Sutton's American Sign Language Picture Dictionary Basic ASL Signs written in SignWriting. The dictionary lists signs by Sutton's Sign-Symbol-Sequence. 4. Videotape: "SignWriting Children's Stories Series" Four ASL Stories signed by Darline Clark Gunsauls Then later, if there are students who are truly interested, we can send Reading Levels 3 and 4. The schedule is as follows: August 18, 1998 - 13 copies of the three books, plus one copy of the video, were shipped to Diana Smith, a teacher of Deaf students, at Caldwell Elementary School, Wichita, Kansas. Caldwell Elementary School Contact Teacher: Diana Smith https://www.SignWriting.org/teach003.html August 24, 1998 - 20 copies of the three books, plus two videos, are scheduled to be shipped to Texas School for the Deaf, Lower School, in Austin, Texas. This is a gift for all of the fourth graders and their teachers. Texas School For The Deaf, Lower School Contact Teachers: Dr. Vicki Everhart & Christina Hamilton https://www.SignWriting.org/teach009.html August 28, 1998 - 46 copies of the three books, plus three videos, are scheduled to be shipped to Robarts School for the Deaf in London, Ontario, Canada. Robarts School Contact Teacher: Paul Cowley https://www.SignWriting.org/teach008.html After these three schools are supplied with books, I will then ship to three other smaller private groups. We all look forward to receiving their feedback - In time, each group will be asked to fill out two new Web Reports. I will post their reports to the SignWriting List, when they come in. All the best - Valerie :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Visit the SignWritingSite: https://www.SignWriting.org Valerie Sutton at The DAC Deaf Action Committee For SignWriting Box 517, La Jolla, CA, 92038-0517, USA (619)456-0098 voice (619)456-0010 tty (619)456-0020 fax ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
