-----Original Message----- From: Charmaine Visser To: SignWriting List ; ; ; Roy Huntley ; Dudu Ngidi ; ; ; Date: 24 July 2000 06:03 Subject: Dolphin Petition SAY NO NOW - NO TO CAPTIVITY AND NO TO CAPTURE OF WILD DOLPHINS Please sign petition at bottom of page and pass it on to like minded people. 33 Not Out - Port Elizabeth Oceanarium decides to go ahead with capture of wild dolphins. Despite the fact that 33 dolphins have died at the Port Elizabeth Oceanarium, 16 of those during or shortly after capture, this facility's board of directors voted on the 18th November 1999 to proceed with the capture of wild dolphins to restock their dolphin pool. The proposed wild capture will most certainly disrupt and effect the wild population after from which the captured dolphins stand a very good chance of dying due to the stress of the operation. If they do survive the capture they will be imprisoned in a bleak cement pool bearing no resemblance to their natural environment. If this life sentence is not enough to endure, these dolphins will then be trained to entertain visitors to the complex. How does one go about training a wild dolphin to perform unnatural acts and to accept human trainers? If you have any doubts about this captive industry, please visit these pages for information on dolphins (and whales) in captivity: https://www.wag.co.za/dolphins/captivity.html https://www.wag.co.za/root_news/oceanarium.html https://www.wag.co.za/dolphins/cetacean_slaughter.html - many dolphins and whales are bought from these drive fisheries. Sign your name and forward to anyone you feel will have a deep concern for the environment. Once the total reaches 50, email back to Protect Our Dolphins on <> To assist us in consolidating the emails and delete duplicate names, please do not use the "forward" or "reply" functions in your email. Please start a NEW mail message, and copy and paste the message you received into the new message. Then sign the petition and send it to your recipients. Many thanks:) NOTE: IF YOU CAN'T, ARE NOT NO. 50 AND CAN'T REACH MORE PEOPLE, PLEASE SEND BACK WHAT YOU HAVE. IF YOU REACH 50 PLEASE SEND IT BACK, AND START A NEW ONE TO PASS ON SO THE MESSAGE DOES NOT DIE. We the undersigned hereby petition the Minister of Environmental Affairs and Tourism, Mr Valli Moosa, to urgently stop the issuing of permits for the capture of wild dolphins and to call an in-depth enquiry into the dolphin captivity industry.
