October 19, 1998 In regards to the general Movement Writing system, I have been thinking of making a "generic" videotape that would have no sound, no interpretation, absolutely no spoken or signed language. Someone would show a position, or a movement, and then the video would show the recording of that in Movement Writing. Every symbol and detail of the writing system would be demonstrated visually and written for the viewer, presented in an organized fashion. It would be like a "video reference guide" for the generic writing system. Of course, people would then have to "apply" those symbols to their professions, but it would be a way for people to "draw from the large pool of possible symbols" when they need it for something unusual, like mime or gesture. Right now our system is more specified than generalized, when it comes to our textbooks and materials. In other words, we have SignWriting texts, and we have DanceWriting texts, but we do not have a Movement Writing text that teaches the entire system in one volume. This "video encyclopedia" I am proposing would perserve the entire writing system for future generations. Of course, I have no funding for this now, so this is just a dream, but I wanted to share this with you, with hopes that it someday will be accomplished - Valerie :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Valerie Sutton at the DAC Deaf Action Committee for SW SignWriting https://www.SignWriting.org Center For Sutton Movement Writing a non-profit educational organization Box 517, La Jolla, CA, 92038-0517, USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ | ||||||||||||
