To: "Valerie Sutton" Date: Tue, 24 Apr 2001 Bom dia, Senhora Valerie (Good day, Ms. Valerie) This is Charles Butler writing you from Brasil. I have been here almost three weeks and it has been a very exciting trip. I have given presentations on Sign Writing to (1) a group of about 150 Deaf and hearing educators, trainers, students, and psychologists; (2) a group of teachers at a school for the Deaf (about 12); (3) in a Deaf culture class (mostly just introductions) of about 30 kids; (4) and will be helping with two conferences coming up in May and in June here in Porto Alegre. I live, for now, near ULBRA (the local Lutheran University) and commute back and forth to PUC (Catholic University) every day to work here at the Signet project for the MCT (Museum of Science and Technology). Attached are three files that DAC may be interested in. They are the beginning of a 4-language dictionary comparing English/Portuguese/Libras/ASL. Like any dictionary, the pages don't carry grammar discussions, but over time we can add more notes. It is a challenge. Hope this can be posted somewhere.
