October 28, 1998 Dear List Members - I am in the process of writing several small grants, requesting funding for the SignWriting Literacy Project in 1999. The SWLP provides donated SignWriting materials to schools for the deaf, K-12. In return, the participating teachers and administrators give us documented feedback, which is published on the web and in an annual SignWriting Literacy Project Report. Fall 1998 is the first semester of the project. Even though the project is free for the schools, there is work involved, because the teachers need to learn SignWriting and then teach this new subject to their students. Plus the teachers are asked to fill-out forms reporting the results. So it is a true collaboration between the schools and our nonprofit organization. We already have one new school system officially on a waiting list. Three other new school systems have expressed curiosity and general interest. If you know a school that would like to participate in 1999, please write to me privately, and I will give you the details. Meanwhile, the five groups participating right now are welcome to continue in the project with more advanced materials, just as long as I receive renewed funding. Have a great evening - Valerie :-) ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ Valerie Sutton at the DAC Deaf Action Committee for SW SignWriting https://www.SignWriting.org Center For Sutton Movement Writing an educational nonprofit organization Box 517, La Jolla, CA, 92038-0517, USA ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ |
