A Special Thanks to John Magee at Acorn Press:
2001-2002
Acorn Press Preserves Historic DanceWriting Publications
Through the 1980's, DanceWriting documents were written by hand with
fine ink pens. Special wax transfer sheets were developed to press
good-looking DanceWriting symbols onto cardboard, to be reproduced at
a printer. Books were printed in small quantities, and lasted until
the year 2000. Amazon.com began to sell DanceWriting publications on
the web, which increased sales.
By the year 2001, the original DanceWriting documents were old and
yellowed. The wax symbols were falling off the original boards. Not
one DanceWriting publication was prepared by computer, so re-printing
the books became problematic.
Out of fear these historic works would be lost, Valerie Sutton showed
them to John Magee at Acorn Press in San Diego. John, who printed the
SignWriter Newsletter in the 1990's, saw the value in preserving the
historic DanceWriting documents. John and his assistant, Debby,
dedicated time and effort to scan each page into the computer,
creating beautiful modern computer files.
The result of this gift? The books can now be re-printed in book
form, and posted on the web for all of us to read in pdf format. The
DanceWriting Online Library would not exist without Acorn Press!!
A special thanks to you, John, and everyone at Acorn Press....
You have made me sooooo happy, that I am turning cartwheels, just
like Stanley the Stick Figure!!
