Hello Valerie and the rest of the list,
What do you do when you need to write a sign, where the hand-movement
occurs right in front of the face (nose area). Can you write the
handshape right in front of the face (I already forsee problems by doing
so, because there is no space left on the face for facial expressions) ?
You see, in Maltese Sign Language there are two very similar signs,
which can be distinguished from each other mainly from their location
(besides mouth-patterns from spoken language for some signers). These
are the signs for ORANGE (the colour) and PIG. While both are signed
close to the face, there is a slight difference. ORANGE is signed in
front of the chin area, and PIG in front of the nose area...how can such
differences be clear when signwriting?
NB: see attachment for above mentioned signs (where PIG1 and PIG2 are
two attempts at writing this sign)
thanks
Maria
(Ps: Thank you Fernando for your encouragement...when it comes from
someone who has been in the same situation and has managed to overcome
all kinds of difficulties, it means alot. :O))
