When I lived in New York I took classes at the ASL Institute on 23rd Street between Sixth and Seventh Avenues. It's a non-accredited, for-profit school, and the classes were laid-back, but almost all the teachers were Deaf and good at their jobs. The New York Society for the Deaf also offers classes, and I've been told that it is more rigorous, but less fun, than the ASLI. -Angus B.
