February 2, 1999 Hi Everyone! Wow...what a day! I received two gifts today... 1. A thick document from Ireland, with lists of Irish signs written in SignWriting and they are written very well indeed!! 2. The introduction to the Irish Sign Language document includes a comparison between the HamNoSys, Stokoe and SignWriting systems - ha! This is just what we have been talking about lately here on the List. This is a coincidence - I had no idea this document was coming from Ireland. What a surprise. The Stokoe system they used is one that has been adapted in Great Britain, so I can tell you more about this later. I will write to them for permission to post the article. No matter what, I still will continue with our original plans to do our own comparison. But I of course welcome this other article - and their Irish signs written in SignWriting are stunning. Too bad the authors of the Irish book do not have an email address. They are not online, but I will do my best to encourage them to get email! By the way, I will be happy to post Daniela's other screens from Sign Dic, but they are large diagrams that are very grapically intense. I have asked Daniela for smaller sizes of the same screens - when i tried to reduce them the detail became quite blurred. So it may take us a few days to work these details out - but when they are posted I will tell you. Have a wonderful evening everyone - if I don't concentrate on printing our textbooks it will never get done!
