Dear SW List Members:
I am really enjoying working with Ronice Quadros from Brazil. Tomorrow we
will have a special DAC meeting in her honor, which will also include
another special guest...a Deaf man from Saudi Arabia...and we will be
videotaping the meeting. It is a rare opportunity that deserves to be
captured on video :-)

I am planning to send out materials to the SignWriting Literacy Project
participants shortly. I am sorry for the delay, but I hope to send them at
the end of this week. The materials will include videos and booklets.

The purpose of this message is to post an older message, written in early
May, that never got posted. The message is an important one, because it
discusses the use of SignWriting in a school recently. Here it is:

Hi Valerie
Just wanted to share some news with you! I just returned to visit Champion
schools where I did my student teaching I was done there just over a month
ago.... I'm sure I told you about the SW unit we did at the HS they
presented SW to the Middle school students who really enjoyed it! In the
Deaf studies class I taught at the HS I presented your videos and booklets
along with a few small activites to jet them thinking about the reasons for
writing languages and to practice using SW. They each wrote a short article in
SW and then developed a presentation to share with the middle school students.
Posters of the basic handshapes and movements and then a great game WOW!!
I went back today and they have made a bulletin board of SignWriting which
includes
among other things a count down to the end of school! Neat! I know this
does not
begin to touch on the masive implications that could evolve out of SW but
awareness is the only way to spread anything.... Thanks for all the materials!
