Subject: Higher Resolution Symbols Online
December 10, 1998
Dear SignWriting List:
There are several groups developing software for SignWriting now. I have
heard from five different groups. It is very needed, and I am so happy
about this. Of course, it takes time to develop new software. None of these
new programs are finished and ready to distribute to others, and probably
won't be for some time.
So most people are still using our SignWriter Computer Program, version 4.3
for MS-DOS. The MS-DOS version does not produce symbols at a high
resolution because it is an older program.
The new SignWriter 5.0, which we are working on, will have symbols at a
higher resolution. But SignWriter 5.0 is not ready yet either.
So, meanwhile, people need symbols that have a "better resolution" than the
symbols produced with SignWriter 4.3. So how do we manage until the new
software is ready?
I have one idea...I have posted one symbol, with its 24 positions on the
web right now:
Symbol 001: Index Finger, Tight Fist
There are a lot more symbols, so it will take me time to post the whole
symbol set. However, I will be happy to do this if there are people who
feel these "symbols online" will be useful. You can download the .GIF files
from the web, and then use the symbols in your software development, or in
your SignWriting publications.
Is there anyone who feels they will use these .GIF files?
I will wait to hear from you, before I post more -
Thanks for your input!
