January 18, 1999 Hello Everyone! I am writing to invite all SignWriting Members to our Annual Membership Meeting held in La Jolla, California. It is from 3:00 to 5:00 on February 7th. The Membership Meeting is an annual tradition, held every February. In the USA, nonprofit organizations have certain "legal charters". The Center For Sutton Movement Writing is an "educational, membership nonprofit", which means that our purpose is to benefit education, and that people can become "SignWriting Members" by paying annual membership dues. The idea behind the law is that the membership dues will help the nonprofit continue its work. And Members, who pay their dues, can then vote in the Annual Membership Meeting. The meeting will be an open Board Meeting, where Board Members and SignWriting Members have a vote. Then we have food to eat, and oftentimes a presentation by our DAC staff members, summarizing the year's accomplishments. SignWriting Members also receive half price on all SignWriting publications, and full technical support. Yesterday I posted three new web pages. The first describes SignWriting Membership: SignWriting Membership https://www.SignWriting.org/mem000.html The second web page, provides a way to become a member through email: Membership Form Through Email https://www.SignWriting.org/mem001.html The third web page is the Proxy form for this February 7th meeting: Proxy Form for Meeting February 7th https://www.SignWriting.org/mem002.html If a SW Member cannot come to our meeting, we ask them to send us their proxy, so their vote is counted. Meanwhile, I confess....I am late in sending the invitations and proxy forms to our SW Members, who are located all over the world. Although everyone will receive the proxy through postal mail in the next week or so, proxies from Japan, for example, may not arrive in time for the meeting :-( So, thank goodness, we have the web! You can now print the Proxy from the web and send or fax it to me anytime. I am sorry for this inconvenience, and thanks for your patience :-) I want to thank all our SignWriting Members for your support in 1998!
