This happened; The Sign language club at our school wanted to print up something to give new visitors; someone suggested the manual alphabet; that idea was soundly defeated, and in the process the idea came up that if you are willing to learn 26 letters, why not learn 26 ASL signs--you could communicate pretty well with those. So now, the question is, which 26 signs? It occurs to me that somebody must have compiled a frequency list (even if only mentally) of what signs are needed most in Signing...........and of course I have the devious idea that I could just write them out in Signwriting........
