Val, I use either Netscape's "Location" field (they have an integrated search engine) or https://www.dogpile.com/ , which does a simultaneous search using other search engines. The search engines it sends data to are: FindWhat, GoTo, Open Directory, Direct Hit, Sprinks by About, Google, RealNames, Kanoodle, Infoseek, Lycos, AltaVista, Bay9 and Yahoo. As you can see, it not only searches the directories you use (Google, AltaVista, Yahoo) but a few others as well.
