February 2, 1999 Dear SignWriting List Members: As you know, our nonprofit organization, the Center For Sutton Movement Writing, is supported by small grants. Occasionally supporters request public acknowledgment for their donations. Mrs. Audrey Geisel's late husband is the world-famous author of children's books, Dr. Seuss. Mrs. Geisel has been instrumental in funding literacy projects, libraries and other educational projects. Recently Mrs. Geisel, through the Dr. Seuss Fund, donated a small sum to our SignWriting Literacy Project. The San Diego Foundation, which manages the Dr. Suess Fund, has requested that we announce Mrs. Geisel's donation publicly "to assist in building new funds for community needs". You can read our announcement on this web page: Supporters of the SignWriting Literacy Project https://www.SignWriting.org/help004.html Here is what it says on the web: December, 1998 The San Diego Foundation Dr. Seuss Fund, at the recommendation of Mrs. Audrey Geisel, funded one school participating in the SignWriting Literacy Project, for the 1999 Spring semester. The funds will help our Deaf Action Committee For SignWriting (the DAC) donate SignWriting books, videos and software to 25 deaf children, and assist their teachers with technical support. The funds will also help with the costs of publishing and disseminating feedback from the teachers, for the benefit of future classrooms. Thank you, Mrs. Geisel, for your continued support of our SignWriting Literacy Project!
