When I read this first, I had no trouble with this sign. I saw it as the
same sign I use for "quiet, silence,..." But then I read
stefan's question and I went back and tried to decipher it
phonologically, and now it seems confusing.
I didn't get the idea that the
hands exchanged places; I interpreted the Brush symbol to refer to the
fingertips brushing across each other as the hands separated--not what was
intended. The axial movement arrow is only there by the right hand, so I
assumed that the left hand didn't turn over, which would have it ending
with both palms up--(which is not the way I sign it, but ....)
Charles' clarification makes it clear that that is not what was intended;
but reading that description, I end up with the left hand palm down and
the right hand palm up. That is, they both turn over at first, so they
are opposoite the starting position as written; then they move apart; my
intuition is that the right hand rotates over a second time so that it
also ends up palm down, but I don't get this from the spelling.
