Abstract
This work is the result of the doctoral thesis defended by the author (BÓZOLI, 2021), under the guidance of Prof. Dr. Marianne Stumpf. It continues a research previously carried out in a school for the deaf, whose results suggested the need for further investigations that could contribute to the use of sign language writing in deaf education (BÓZOLI, 2015). The general objective was to analyze the contributions of sign writing (SignWriting) in the learning of Portuguese as a second language (L2) by deaf students in the initial years of Elementary School in a school for the deaf in Maringá (PR). To this end, specific objectives were defined: to analyze the reading and writing of words (lexicon) of deaf children in written Portuguese (L2) activities with the application of SignWriting, to compare the performance of deaf children in Portuguese activities with and without the support of SignWriting, as well as to identify how pedagogical practices through SignWriting can enhance the learning of written Portuguese (L2) by deaf children.

Resumo
Este trabalho é fruto da tese de doutorado defendida pela autora (BÓZOLI, 2021), sob a orientação da Prof. Dra. Marianne Stumpf. Dá continuidade a uma pesquisa realizada anteriormente em uma escola de surdos, cujos resultados sugeriram a necessidade de mais investigações que possam contribuir para o uso da escrita de língua de sinais na educação de surdos (BÓZOLI, 2015). O objetivo geral foi analisar as contribuições da escrita de sinais (SignWriting) na aprendizagem de português como segunda língua (L2) por alunos surdos dos anos iniciais do Ensino Fundamental em uma escola de surdos em Maringá (PR). Para isso, foram definidos objetivos específicos: analisar a leitura e escrita de palavras (léxico) das crianças surdas em atividades de português escrito (L2) com a aplicação do SignWriting, comparar o desempenho das crianças surdas em atividades de português sem e com o suporte do SignWriting, bem como identificar como as práticas pedagógicas através do SignWriting podem potencializar a aprendizagem do português escrito (L2) pelas crianças surdas.
